heroes of armageddon

I purposefully postponed this blog post about my inclusion in the Heroes of Armageddon charity project for a couple of reasons. The first one is because its spring and Im a professional gardener whose staff has been cut in half. I have been busy in da garden. Secondly, I wanted to wait until the project splashed across the blogosphere and the big guys blew their load. This way I extend the exposure a little instead of blending into the back ground. I am part of the Blood Angels team that Jawaballs has put together. Jawa, Old Shatta, Mi-cho, John and myself will be painting and assembling a 3000 pt army. Ok Im no stranger to army building/painting but this has me a little daunted. What has me nervous is not really what I have to paint, but how I have to paint it. We have been asked to pull all stops and do absolutely the best possible work that we can do. Every figure should be a golden daemon entry! What did I draw? The death company component of the army. I will be painting: 10 Death company 1 Death Dread 1 Stormraven
Im quite excited to be painting these guys in black and red as I have already painted the Death company in white before. What has me nervous is that Black is very hard to paint on the level we are discussing. Let alone my teammates who can all paint there asses off. If I dont do a good enough job, Jawa will hit me again. Even though he loves me and would never hurt me on purpose. This will be the next major project that I start, and while its only 12 models, it will take me a long time to finish.

Ive been commissioned for a catachan guard army and I will begin on this as soon as I am done with this project.

I'm sure Jawa wouldn't of let you paint the Deathcompany if he didn't trust you... but to give you an idea of what Golden Daemon black looks like.

I'm sure it will be easy :P

Congrats on the inclusion on this, man, it's an awesome thing to do!

Good luck knocking this out, man, I know it'll be sexy...in a death dealing, vampirey sort of way.

Painting black can be tough. Lately I have been mixing black with colors other than white to get the right look.

Sometimes I mix black with shadow grey and do edge highlighting. I only add white to the mix for the final and most extreme edges. Then I wash the model with a black ink+blue ink mixture...the result is an awesome midnight blue you can see here: http://tauofwar.blogspot.com/2011/03/this-post-is-serve-as-showcase-for.html

Alternatively, try mixing your black with bleached bone. This will give it a warmer grey that would match well with all the warm colors of the Blood Angels.

I'm sure whatever you do, you'll have your own stamp on it and your own style and that is also really important for any miniature. I'm sure whatever you produce will look awesome.

LOL
@ol shatta
How did you get your nickname? Do you hit your enemies in the hands with a ballpeen hammer? Respectful, ok ok! Lol
I've recently picked up a really dark grey from the vallejo opaque line called charcoal grey. I'mthinking about what you said in regards to the warmth of the color and its relation to the rest of the army. It's a very good point. We will see! I've gotta finish what I'm working on now before I get to far ahead of myself
