ard boys semi finals results

The King is Dead, long live the King!

Game 1 started with a surprise! Evan stole the initiative and did some minor damage. Writing this Monday night has left me fuzzy on most of the details except that without lash and cover in this game, I would have been shot to shit. I have said it several times in various videos but you dont want to slaughter/massacre your first game. I got caught up in just trying to survive and didnt check myself. I took 22 out of 24 battle points in round 1.

**Game 2 objective placement**

Game 2 started with a similar surprise and ended with a rules argument. I stole the initiative and foolishly took it seeing a Hive tyrant and Tyrant guard at the half way line. I lashed them and shot them to death with Plasma and Meltas. I had a very succesful game against Ray, but as I have said in my tactica video, it would all come down to who was sitting on the right objectives. I placed the objective according to plan since he was much more shooty than I. He did much the same thing placing the objectives 12" from the edges and each other. He brought everthing but outflankers on in his left hand side of the board on the first turn, sitting on objectives one and two in that table quarter. On turn 2 and 4 we rolled the objective and he was sitting on top of both. He played a nidzilla list which I have beaten a million times, but not this time with these stupid random objectives. He won by two gaunts at the end of the game. I would have to say that Ray was a bad opponent. It was ard boys and everyone wanted to win, but he did so poorly!

**This is an edit from the original post. SOme people have asked about what the rules dispute was. I said I would explain, so here it is. I assaulted his remaining gaunt unit that was sitting on objective 2 on my last turn. It was a lasting and significant assault in the game. It lasted until his turn where he assaulted with several carnifexs. It began with two full coherent squad. My aspiring champion with a powerfist was within two inches at the beginning of combat. Through all the initiatives, he succeded in killing the whole squad except for my power fist. This is where the rules dispute started. He told me that I couldnt have my power fist attacks because at initiative 1, I was no longer within two inches of a model who was in base to base. He removed all models and claimed victory before I could find it in the rule book that he was incorrect. At the point where I proved he was incorrect, his argument changed saying that I was in base to base with the carnifex and that I couldnt attack the gaunt squad, the squad giving him the game. That pissed me off and I told him that if he didnt give me my two attacks against his two remaining gaunts, that I wouldnt agree to the score and that I would go and contest it. Having no choice, he gave me my two attacks. I needed 3s to hit and 2s to wound. I rolled a 5 and a 2 to hit. End of rules discussion and my ard boys ambition.****

Game 3 was the best game of the weekend, either because I could relax or because my opponent Drew was great! It was a classic ork horde with 120 boys and lootas, nobs, big meks, and battle wagons. Again nothing I havent beaten several time before. Things looked great turn one with nothing but a couple of advancing battle wagons and some lootas destroying two rhinos. No big deal especially when I did 32 plasma wounds to a ork mob from a single oblit squad. No sweat, except I spaced and ignored the battle wagons full of nobs and warboss'. He slammed into me and ripped my sorcerers apart. That was it, I didnt even have enough guns to shoot that many orks unless I could group them first with lash. That was it, no chance against the green tide after that!

I had a good little vacation with my wife up in Maine. Check out our whale watching highlights video on the bottom. The 3 geeks store was kinda lame, but I want to give a shout out to the Red Beserker. He declined an interview but it was awesome to meet a reader just the same. Good Luck and thanks for coming out to say hey!!! Skulls for the skull throne!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what was the rules dispute in game 2?

Flekkzo said...

And who was right?

Unfortanutely often these rules discussions do not have anyone who is certainly "right". More often than not you have one person with a more reasonable reading of the rule compared to the other.

Hey matt nice gaming to bad about the second game but still as long as you had some fun it's all worth it. I can only say it's a pity I'm on the side of the big puddle. Would love to come and play against you guys you and the Salvation boys really seem like a Decent bunch of guys with a good intrest in the game.

Thanks for the update - I was hoping you'd make it through, since I was looking forward to seeing your stuff in person in Chicago.

That said, I understand where you're coming from. Scenario 2 was a horrible idea, what with making luck too much a factor.

Take care - Brent

I'm cutting down all my carnifexes to a single head on a base since I hear that is legal and all...

Cover saves for me out of nothing!

Good plan Fritz but remember to also have the tips of your weapon biomorphs showing so that you are WYSIWYG or else the model does not have any and is hence not legal.

Is this one of the rumored underground scuttling genestealer players? That is where the Judge needs to step in.

I will make an edit to this post later and explain the rules dispute. I won the argument but only after drawing the absolute line. Ill explain later!

Too bad about that 2nd game. Loved the whales though.

The first part is certainly wrong. That was one of the big close combat changes in 5th and was talked all about on the web and white dwarf. No more model removal to deny attacks.

Was the powerfist in base to base with the fex though? Because if you are in base to base with one unit in a multiple combat that model must direct its attacks at that unit.

What a dick. You were right, unless ofc you actually WERE in b2b with the Fex.

Apparently I can't spell, and it won't let me edit.

Even if he was still in b2b with the Fex, if his PF was also in b2b with the Guants it doesn't matter - he gets to choose. So his opponent was only right if the PF was ONLY in b2b with the Fex when defender's react was complete.
