Ard boys list

This is an ard boys list that I am going to be play testing tomorrow. I have a tendency to go with more basic stuff than putting wargear on a lot of my untis. A regular reader asked if I have ever considered putting a combi melta on my rhinos. I hadnt and the more I think about it the more I like the idea of my outflanking Chosen rhinos with it. Those are going to be a one two punch and then they will die in the responses. The list here is going to be revised by taking out 1 or 2 oblits so I can free up some points. I am going to be playing a tank company on Friday so I will make my decisions then. Anyway, here it is as it stands. Let em rip!

hq X2 Lash sorcerer 250 pts

elites X2 5man chosen with 5 meltas with rhino w/Dozer blades 180 X 2 =360

elite 3 man termies w/ combi meltas with Land Raider transport w/ Dzr Bld 330

Troops X 4

7 man Plague Marines 2w/ meltas with Rhino w/DB 221 X4 = 884

Hvy Sprt X 3

3 man Oblit squad 225 X 3= 675

This list fits into the parameters of what I was talking about when you first asked about the 'Ard Boyz.
I really like the idea of a combi-melta on a rhino...mainly because people never think of a rhino as a anti-tank threat. If you get a good roll, the rhino pops open the enemy transport, your chosen kill off several of the troops (terminators) inside......
.....and then die in the brutal hail of gunfire that follows!

I am very interested in the play test!

I was looking in the chaos codex ( i was considering running them at one point) and i noticed that at minus one melta ( which you can give a model as a combi weapon) but for -3 points per model and as a heavy support choice instead of an elite you could run them as havocs instead and get four meltas out of them. just something to consider

Putting a combi-melta on the Chosenrhino is a good idea, as they will not be on the board from start on. I normaly would spent left points on a combi-flamer for the Champions instead, as the Rhinos won´t get a chance to fire their load often. The list alltogether doesn´t look bad, but the number of easy killpoints is something to think about. 2*5 Chosen+Rhino and 3 Termis are 5 easy killpoints, not to mention the 4 PM Rhinos. At Annihilation, you will have a hard time I think...
If I dare to give advice, I would drop one of the Chosen and add some more guys to the other squad, I would also put some other units into the LR. The Raider itself is pretty expensive and the Termis won´t do much. What about Berserkes? Sure, you would have to go with "only" 6 Oblits, but the LR would be a much greater thread. Give it demonic possession, drive forward, lash some juicy targets into CC range and go out for blood! For the rest of the points I would take a Terminator squad (6 guys with heavy flamer and 5 combi-melta) and deepstrike it behind enemy lines. Just my 5 cents...

the problem with havocs is they dont infiltrate. Thats the main reason for the chosen. Plus it cuts into your oblits to take them.

Running 6 Rhino's seems like a weakness to me. You are conceding a loss in a kill point game before it even starts. That is 1/3 of all games.

The Chosen are a unit I have never had luck with. I never ran two squads with 5 meltas each though.

What I like about this list is someone playing Chaos, even a dual Lash Chaos army will not see it coming.

I might rethink the Termies they are expensive and die so easily even in a land raider. You are spending 330 points for two TL Lascannon sponses that are only effective if it does not move. The comb meltas are great on the termies but really only for one tank kill.

Also what are your thoughts about running a Defiler in a lash list. I run 1 squad of 3 man Oblits and a Defiler. I find that if I leave him in the back people ignore him and hide from the oblits, I then can move him and hit them with the large blast battle cannon. With the oblits they make a nasty 1 2 combo. I find that with a LR everyone also shoots at it and ignore my Defiler.

The termies give him the land raider as an attachment so that it does not count as heavy support. If he drops them it has to go with them.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that last year at 'Ard Boys transports were not a kill point. I am assuming that they will run something similiar this year....then again, who knows until we start seeing the scenarios.

yes rhino's are kp normally, but like magilla said hey werent at ard boyz last year. But what are you going to do in objective missions without them? Walking across the board is a surefire way to get your plague marines shot up by ordnance. Heck my ard boyz list with 2 redeemers would love to see walking plague marines I can fry with my flamestorms and easily assault with my terminators.

Rhinos are a lot more resilient than people give them credit for. Especially in cover. Especially in a list with other threats. I can bet most people will be aiming for the oblits and the land raider first.
