"counts as," Kharn / spikey bits contest entry

Hey Fellas!  I hope everything is well for everyone out there.  This feels so strange since I havent done it in such a long time.  I have gotten to play about 4 games of the new edition, 3 of those being in a tournament that I finished dead last in!  I had fun throughout the day as a whole but it pretty much sucked sitting there while the guys were picking my bones clean for tournament points at the tail end of a few of the ggames.  I havent been back to play since.  Maybe that will change since I have decided to take the next three months off of work.  I just had a number two and I dont think I have ever seen one quite so beautiful.    

I mean that I just had my second son!  :D  Im obviously thrilled and I am going to take the next three months off from work to get to know the little guy.....and maybe do some painting.  That might mean more blogging so hold your breath!

This fella here is my "counts as," Kharn.  The base model is of course, the Lord from the Dark Vengence Box.  A few details that might be overlooked are the lack of the STUPID random teeth that show up throughout the fig.  I couldnt get rid of them all, but I did cut off and resculpted as many as possible.  Another change that I made was that I shaved or cut the bone ridges off his antlers.  This allowed me to do a color fade that I thought looks much better.  Lastly, I gave him a manly pistol.  An artifact that once belonged to an ancient Terran called DIRTY Harry.  I have written my own rules for the weapon:  str 10, ap 1, unlimited range, assault 6

All for a 5 pt upgrade.  i cant wait to bring him out in a tournament!  MUHAHahaHa  The axe is made from parts from a blood angels axe, two chain axes, two chaos stars, and two skulls.

 

There is still some minor detail work in order for him to be considered finished!

 

I cant express how dissappointed in the chaos release I really am.  I dont really give a care about the codex as its just rules that I deal with when playing the game.  Hell, I liked the last codex, but am always happy for fresh stuff!  Anyway, the model release seems so crappy.  I am not talking about the new models and whether I like them or not.  I am refering to the lack of new kits.  Those damn beserker models are really showing there age.  The plague marines suck nuts, and those stupid obliterators.  regardless of the mini rant here, I am seriously disappointed in the lack of improvement to the csm model range!

Well believe it or not, I havent touched a fig or even thought about playing the new 6th edition of 40K yet.  In fact, I picked up the book and flipped through it for about 15 seconds and then put it down stating the art was nice.  Im not to sure when I will get around to it, but I will.....Some day. 


Magilla Gurilla is putting together a charity drive for a Childrens hospital that helped out a buddy of his.  Im not really in the know, but if you go over to www.beyondthetabletop.blogspot.com you can see what he is trying to do.  When I first read that he was putting something together I figured that I would donate the existing models in my Nicodem crew.  I have mixed feelings about this because these are some of my favorite models that I own.  Glad to help, but sad to see them go sorta deal!  Mortimer was the model that I didnt have finished and since I said I would finish him, I came out of semi retirement.  ive thought more than once about dumping everything and running with whatever money I could get out of it.  Let me say that I am really glad i didnt do that.  I was asked to paint some other figs to round out the crew but I just am not going to be able to do that.

I'll have to admit that not being able to line up the pictures in neat little rows is really pushing my OCD to frustrating levels. 

   * a nice quiet nod or hat tip to friendly faces out there*  Im not sure if any of you guys recognize this fig, but I have him and a whole command squad painted to a decent level.  I have been steadily painting when I have time, but havent played in a long time.  Im all right with that ccause even though IVe played 2-3 times in the last few months, I didnt have a good time other than being in my opponents company. 
Anyway, back to what matters.  Figs.  I had a whole bunch of pictures taken but I dont like the long dong layout of the pics/blog so it looks like you guys will miss out.  I have a cool ass dread I converted from an AoBR dread, tech marine, and librarian that round out my command squad. This fig here "counts as" a TH/SS termie with CML.  Watcha think?
oh, Ill guess I have time to put the dread pics in.  He is partially painted with the Multi melta and Dreadnought CC arms.

Well, not a lot to say. I posting my new apothecary now, unfinished, because I dont know when I am going to really be able to work on him again. Ive let my grad school work slip a little and Ive got to tighten up the reigns so the paint station is getting put away for a while.



I didnt go to the main Battle for Salvation GT for the same reason I didnt go to NOVA. Am I the only person who doesnt want to play a marathon of 40K. I mean holy crap! I heard a horror story while I was playing in the doubles tournament on Friday. It was a horror story to me because after the 3 games I played on Friday, my back hurt like hell. @ NOVA - 5 games on Friday, 4 on Saturday and 4 on Sunday! 13 games in three days? AHHHHH F you if you think Im doing that.

I dont have school next week so I was able to pull a lazy this weekend and sit around doing who cares what! Rent SPACE MARINE from the RedBox for $2 dollars and beat it, check! 99% complete my Belial model, check!

A note on the cape: I really regret not repairing the tattered edges and holes with green stuff. I got lazy, and somehow rationalized the war torn look. REGRET IT!!! I spent a lot of time trying to decide what designs I was going to do. Hence the red X on the inside. Lame? Maybe but good enough for something barely visible. What I really like is the "art nouveau" design on the back of the cape. I am absolutely in love with that stuff. The second picture was a finished picture until I got to thinking that those wings really represented lizard or daemon wings and not the angels of death that this army is being modeled behind. I wanted that to be a re-occuring symbol but I realized with the feathered wings everywhere else, that it wouldnt look coherent. SO... I painted over it and added some color. The two sea gull heads are supposed to be the aquilla eagle heads with one blind eye. Whats the official story behind that anyway?



On a side note, does anyone know anything about the last Soul Drinkers book. What the hell is taking Ben COunter so long? I want to know what heappens to Sarepedon!!!!!!!
