Weekend tournament results 10/17/09

Did I win? Regardless of what happened, we had a great time that day and with reflection, it just seems these guys run their tournaments a little different. It didnt seem that way at the time. It felt like a shady business deal at first, so sorry about the vent at the end but its the only footage I got!

Andrew,
WTF, you can't be doing that! I tend to be the strict one in the group, but if you act like that again you won't be wearing our club shirt again!

I watched the video until minute 2.22 then had to stop.

What nonsense; "We screwed you, but you would have done okay if we hadn't screwed you."

Transports aren't kill points is the dumbest house rule I've ever heard of. I'd bet a lot of money (I don't have...) they made it up on the spot rather than look dumb when you guys pointed out the 4 passages that proved them wrong.

...

*grumble grumble*

i said i was sorry almost imendently and it was just a kind of bump becuase he was parked Super close there was barley any room for me to open the door.i did not mean to break club rules and upset you

Andrew, my mistake. Your post made it sound like you did it on purpose. Accidents happen, I was thinking you hit his car out of spite. No worries at all.

Hey matt,

after seeing your video and reading the other commentary i doubt i can say anything that would ease the feeling of this incident.

Only thing i can say is that despite the obvious misruling here you guys let it ride and kept your dignity. Guys remember that even though we like to win the game it's still a game and we should act like adults when stuff like this happens and keep your cool.

The entire thing is just incredibly sketchy and this shows why rules packs are so important to prevent things like this from happening. And in hat light since the house rule was unannounced you where in your full right to claim first place even if only to us your fellow bloggers.

Morale of the story: You Won! maybe not in prizes but in pride!

Cheers CJ

one thing i noticed and not to comment spam is remember when the owner was next us when we were playing and we counted transports as Kps and the other players that i played that were regulars counted them as Kps too it seems like they pulled that crap at the end when james was going to win through out dont you think that the person running the tournament who walked around would notice us counting transports as Kps and pop in "hey guys forgot to mention transports are Kp in this store house rule" but no he didnt the only reason they did that is because our club got first thorugh 4th and then they changed it on there forums.did you even read there forums dont you think house rules would be listed there of all places. one guy said something rude i beleive i dont know off hand

Matt we should coordinate my visiting with a trip to that store for a tourney. We can rickroll that competition with players from all over this country.

Note to self. Ask at the start of the day, do you have any house rules? Of these House Rules, do any go agaisnt the clearest of RAW?

That guy being the owner and a player, should have awarded you both the trophy and store credit since you tied.

The host of this event participated then changed the rules on the fly to benefit themselves and shaft you (and other participants) is reprehensible. They should refund you (and any other disgruntled participant) your entry fee- at the very least.

Events such as these are meant to push the hobby AND increase customer base. Alternate Universe did a pretty good job of failing on both counts. I will be mindful of this lesson when I eventually participate in tournaments: If the tournament host deviates from their preset rules- I won't play (and sure as hell won't support their business).

Good work at maintaining your cool amidst that storm of douchebagary.

It is like day and night when comparing an event such as BOLSCON with this tournament. Not in the sheer size, or participation, but in the professionalism (and lack thereof). Alternate Universe should take some lessons from JWOLF and his guys.

Personally, I'd contact the Better Business Bureau and formalize a complaint if for no other reason than to protect future customers and potential contestants.

Love your blog and vids, dude.

I play in a lot of tournaments at the numerous FLGS that populate my area. I have never ever seen something like this....and I have played in at least 10 different hobby shops.

It goes to show how good you are with your army that despite the antics you managed to walk away with 20 skulls.

BOLSCON was a shadow of what Adepticon is, personally. Granted, I work close with the Adepticon crew, but just how they set some things up and ran them could see a lot of improvement.

That said, any group of people putting something together like BOLSCON benifits the hobby. Hopefully when it has a few more years under its belt, BOLSCON can be on par with the vet of large GW events, A-Con.

And if you liked the terrain of BOLSCON for 40k, its A-Cons. It got lent to them for use. But you will know what kind terrain you wil have should you come to A-Con in March.
