ard boys 09 playtest #2

Here is the new list. I didnt even get through two turns with the first list to know that it was no where what it could be.

HQ X2 Lash Sorcerer with Melta bombs and P. ICon 135X2 270
Elites X3 5man chosen with 5meltas with Rhino w/ DB, CombiMelta 190X3= 570
Troops X4 7man Plaguemarines, 2w/ meltas with Rhino w/DB 221X4= 881
troops 5 man Plaguemarines, 2w/meltas with rhino w/ DB 175
Hvy X2 3man oblit squad 225X2 450
Hvy 2 man olit squad 150

I had to change the list a little for the playtest because I couldn't get my hands on another rhino. I gave one of the plague marine squads a champ with a power fist. I did much better than I thought I would do against this power house list. Damn,! its tough. To see what Kris was playing, see the previous video. I almost won, and thinking about it, its hard to believe that I was 2.25" from a major victory after I caught an ass beating like that! Kris took home the minor victory, beating me in Kill Points!

I havent forgotten about the Obliterator contest and I will announce the winner on Friday!

ard boys 09 playtest #1

*** Today is the last day to be registered for the giveaway***

The test game didnt go so good for me over at Comic book Heaven. In fact, we didnt even make it to round two. If you watch the video you will see what happens but I almost feel like it was a stay of execution. Khornate Kris' army list is 'ard as nails! Vulkan He'stan with Thunder hammer termies in Land Raiders, bikes as troops, and Land speeders suck nuts.

painting yellow on vehicles

I didn't know which "painting yellow" video to do first. I chose painting yellow on top of black vehicles due to convenience. I will do another video where I will show how to paint a Imperial Fist fig. Same principle, it just involves another ink wash with some white highlights.

The secret to painting yellow is to get an even coat, on each layer, when layering up to white. The first picture is not good enough to escape notice, but the second on is. In the video I dont start in the beginning, in fact I start between the codex grey and fortress grey colors. This technique can only be used on simple designs, but that doesnt mean you can not complicate the design later.

On a dark color vehicle start with:

1) clean the surface of any oils from your hands
2) using the technique demonstrated in the video layer up the following colors
-codex grey
-fortress grey
-white
-golden yellow (optional if previous layers done well enough)
-bad moon yellow (brightest yellow possible)

I dont have any footage of painting the yellow on the vehicle, but if you have done everything correctly, it should be easy. No special tricks, just yellow on white.

Ard boys list

This is an ard boys list that I am going to be play testing tomorrow. I have a tendency to go with more basic stuff than putting wargear on a lot of my untis. A regular reader asked if I have ever considered putting a combi melta on my rhinos. I hadnt and the more I think about it the more I like the idea of my outflanking Chosen rhinos with it. Those are going to be a one two punch and then they will die in the responses. The list here is going to be revised by taking out 1 or 2 oblits so I can free up some points. I am going to be playing a tank company on Friday so I will make my decisions then. Anyway, here it is as it stands. Let em rip!

hq X2 Lash sorcerer 250 pts

elites X2 5man chosen with 5 meltas with rhino w/Dozer blades 180 X 2 =360

elite 3 man termies w/ combi meltas with Land Raider transport w/ Dzr Bld 330

Troops X 4

7 man Plague Marines 2w/ meltas with Rhino w/DB 221 X4 = 884

Hvy Sprt X 3

3 man Oblit squad 225 X 3= 675

Ard boys list ideas/ Oblit giveaway reminder #1

First off, check out the next post to see about winning some cool Obliterators*****

So its been one year since I was dragged off the soap box I used to stand on. The Dual Lash list that this blog was centered around, morphed from my last years 'Ard boys list. Last year I played a beefed up Dual Lash list, and I did really well. I didnt win the semi-finals because if you remember with the old guard codex you could have a 5 kill point army and that was what I played against in game 3 of the semi finals. It wouldnt matter except that we played a kill point mission knocking each other out. After that fiasco of wiping out literally half his army with only one kill point to show for it, I sulked. I had felt cheated and I was tired of loosing. So when Fritz and I started talking about the 08' GT, I said that I was going to play to win.

ANYWAY back to what this post is about. Last year, In my opinion Lash was King. Thats because it wasnt quite figured out by the majority that Mech is the real King. I am making a prediction, there will be more Vulkan He'stan armies than anything else in the semi finals. That leaves the question, what is a chaos lord to do. I have only played it once, but my competitive Khorne list over on the right was fun and nasty against Khornate Daemon Kris. I would like to somehow do the 3 Landraider list with escorting rhinos but with all those twin linked meltas running around I might be wasting my time. Knowing that people will be beefing up on anti-tank stuff in there army, a horde list may be the way to go. I dont have that so what do you guys think. Should I just beef up my dual lash list or try something new! ANY IDEAS, Let me know. This is a base list with no tweaking or wargear!

HQ Sorcerer X 2 = 250
Elites 3 man termies w/combi meltas X 3 315
with Land raider transport X3 660
Troops plague marines with meltas in rhinos
Hvy Sprt Oblits

OBLITERATE THEM!!! #2 Obliterator convertion series

For the second half of this post series, I will need a volunteer! Any of you plastic chaos terminators will do. You will be transformed into a shooty lumbering behemoth of chaos. Behold your future..............................................................................

SPECIAL THANKS TO DE LA ROSA!!!!!

This instructional set will not be text heavy because I believe that most of you can put two and two together to get five! It is easy, really it is. If you are a beginner then you should watch these videos before you start. They discuss basic skills needed to convert and finish this model.

1)Priming figs http://chaos-space-marines.blogspot.com/2009/04/spraying-priming-miniatures-advice.html

2) pinning model parts http://chaos-space-marines.blogspot.com/2009/05/pinning-model-parts.html

3)removing mold lines http://chaos-space-marines.blogspot.com/2009/03/building-chaos-space-marine-rhino.html

In the first post, http://chaos-space-marines.blogspot.com/2009/06/obliterate-them-1a-obliterator.html, I told you the bits that were necessary to do this conversion. If you have them then we can start with the assembly. The red part of the bits are to be cut off. Take care to preserve the grey part of the bit because that is what will be used in the conversion.

HEAD______________________________________________________

ARMS__________________________________________________

1) teleport homer "bottom half"

2) Imperial termie arms "top half"

3) assembled together 1+2= 3

Some people use a product called Blue Tac when trying to position/ pose the model. I just use my fingers.

One of the things that I do when I start a conversion project is to thumb through my bits boxes and pick out bits that I may or may not be useful during construction. I knew exactly what I would be using for this project, except for the weapons. And that is what makes these models look so cool, the totally compensating for something, over the top weapons. Use what ever you think looks good. Its your model. Plasma and Melta guns work really well for this project.

Sportsmanship solution

Excellent, (in my best Montgomery Burns impersination!) After those well put round of comments taking both sides of the necessity of sportsmanship scores, I am now able to layout my master plan.
For this past tournament a win got you 15, a tie gave 10, a loss gave 5, with a possible 12 for sportsmanship. Score range 5 - 27! Regardless of any argument, this makes for a possible runaway tournament.
I think that Sportsmanship scores are necessary but there weight in the scoring should be decreased. In a 5-10-15 scoring scale, a MAX sportsmanship of 5 would balance things out. A loss with a good sportsmanship score would keep you in the tourney while a win with a bad sportsmanship would keep you from running away with the tourney but not keep you from winning it all if you take the next two games, (skulls!)
Another possible solution is an even lower sportsmanship MAX score with some sort of SACRIFICIAL scoring system. Ill give you a MAX of 3 sportsmanship and I will give another bonus 3 points that will be deducted from my score. If he is that good of an opponent, prove it! If no one gives the bonus three, and that is likely, then the 3 base sportsmanship score that everyone has will cancel each other out. If you get tanked, or if you get upset and tank the other person in a bad decision that you regret later, than the 3 points will most likely not have a large impact on the tournament. A little, but not a lot.
These are just some ideas I had in my head. If you think these are bad ideas to an old problem then by all means show me how stupid I am in public and not in a private email. But please leave your address so we can talk in person ;)

Sportsmanship scores = revenge?

Guys, due to my busy week I didnt get to put the effort into this post that I wanted to. I know a lot of people like text but I just didnt have time. give the video a quick watch and let me know what ya think about the questions I pose!

Surprise, surprise!!!

My wife surprised me last night at the game club with the best birthday cake I have ever had, and below Brother Captain James gets to do what he has always wanted to do, lick my face! So what the hell does this have to do with 40K, Black Matt? Well I want to take the time to say how lame it is if your significant other doesnt support you in your hobby. Im not suggesting she play or even pay attention to it, but if she says that its stupid, or that your childish and its a waste of your time then she doesnt really care about what makes you happy. And if that is the case then maybe think about where things are going for you.

toy wiz doubles tournament 06/13/09

Well that is that! Another tournament down with no loot to show. Thats ok because the club was represented, and that matters to me more than anything else.

Doubles tournament

Tomorrow I will have the honor of destroying Fritz 40K and Brother Captain James in a doubles tournament across the Hudson river at Toywiz. I will be teaming up with a friend of mine who has yet to make an apperance in any of the videos. Our team consists of necrons and tau. Fritz and James, just another skull for the skull throne. Muhahahahahahaha!!!!!!!

Imperial Fists banner 1st one/1st try

Well here is my first try at doing hand painted banners. Obviously this and the freehand that I did, and am planning to do, on top of my chaos rhinos are/ were inspired by the competition in the Battle for Salvation club. It feels like a measuring stick is constantly pulled out. I would argue that inter-species competition amongst humans is the reason for technological/valued advancement. Whoops, anyway I have always wanted to finish my Imperial Fists and believe it or not they aren't. I probably would never have ever gotten around to trying to finish them if I wasnt for the competition in the club. The banners are much easier than I thought, especially with something to look off of. I would have to say that not having a design/ decision was the largest inhibiting factor in trying this. If you want to do a banner, draw out exactly what you want on a,"to scale," piece of paper. Then if your not practiced, (been painting well for a long time,) then practice on the paper and several copies if necessary.

OBLITERATE THEM!!! #1a Obliterator convertion series

Well, the long awaited Oblit conversions are finally here. They turned out fantastic when I was only just trying to come up with a cheap substitute for the ard' boys competition in 08'. If you have enough bits, you can use either an imperial or chaos termie. The first ones I did were imperial and if it came down to a choice, I think the ones made out of the chaos termies look much better.
This is how I see myself handeling these instructional posts. I will do each step in two parts. The first, (this one,) will be where I try and be as complete as possible. The second step will be me responding to emails requesting clarification.
-Possible bits: WARNING, these conversions will burn through your bit boxs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BITS NEEDED_____________________________________________

- Any and all special/heavy weapons from almost any race. You will make the decision what weapons look good and what you'll want to use.

- Choice of head, I prefer the nurgle champion included with chaos tactical squad box set

-Termintor arms and misc. bits, (Imperial work better with the hose)

*** = must have bits for this particular conversion =***

***Terminator legs and torso from either chaos or imperial.

***Teleport homer from Imperial Termie box set. 2 NEEDED PER OBLIT

1st day back/ back tracking during army construction #2

Well today's post is really my first day back to what I said this blog was originally going to be about. I havent picked up a fig since GW announced that they were going to cancel the GTs this year. That really de-railed my get things done attitude. However, after Brother Captain James finally convinced me to pick the brush back up, I have attacked my painting table with a furious assault. I will have small posts through out the week. This one involves backtracking my Dual Lash list- army. I didnt take a pic before the tape image but just imagine that the second pic has the quartered chaos star, and that was what I started with. I taped the rhino because I wanted the clean look of spray, but didnt want to destroy the magical flames and weathering look that is already done on the bottom. Watch the video below and it will explain why I am going through this trouble of backtracking even though I like the position of the quartered chaos star in the first pic.

Featured Armies from BFS tourney

Dan Matulich's Salamanders

BFS Youngblood Will's PH Death Grd

Tony Pony's Space Wolves

Scott Lloyd's IG

Look for more of Ed Miller's IG when I get him pinned down!
This is the last post from the BFS tourney, I promise! But I didnt think you would want to miss some of these cool picks that I took. I envisioned the day being nothing else but taking pics of armies but when war calls the righteous answer.
